How we earn: some casino links on this page may pay us a commission if you sign up. It costs you nothing and never moves a casino up our list. We list only UK Gambling Commission licensed casinos. 18+. Full disclosure.
Quick answer The best casino welcome bonus is the one with terms you can meet without changing how you play. Since 19 January 2026, UK wagering is capped at 10x and mixed-product offers are banned. Compare the qualifying deposit, wagering, expiry, eligible games and payment methods before you opt in. We read six current offers on the operators’ own pages on 29 September 2026: Unibet, Grosvenor, 888casino, LeoVegas, PlayOJO and Sky Casino.

Key takeaways
- Every UK welcome bonus must keep wagering at or below 10 times since 19 January 2026 (UKGC).
- A welcome offer can no longer mix products, so no “bet on football, get casino spins” deals.
- Terms must be clear, transparent, fair and readily accessible before you sign up.
- We verified six welcome offers on 29 September 2026 from each operator’s own page: Unibet, Grosvenor, 888casino, LeoVegas, PlayOJO and Sky Casino.
- Two of them have no wagering on spin winnings: LeoVegas and PlayOJO.
- bet365 and Betway showed no casino welcome offer that day. Mr Vegas and William Hill Vegas offers are not yet verified, so we show no figures for them.
What makes a casino welcome bonus the best one for you?
The best welcome bonus is not the biggest headline number. It is the offer whose qualifying deposit you were going to spend anyway, whose wagering is low, whose expiry gives you enough time, and whose eligible games you actually want to play. A smaller offer with simple terms often beats a larger one with tight limits.
Casino marketing leads with the headline: a number of spins or a percentage match. The value sits in the significant terms underneath. When you compare sign up offers, ask five questions in this order:
- What do I have to deposit and stake to trigger it? If the qualifying amount is more than you planned to spend, the offer is not good value for you.
- How many times must I wager it, and wager what? The cap is 10x, but it matters whether the multiple applies to the bonus amount or to winnings from free spins.
- How long do I have? A claim window and a use window are two separate clocks.
- Which games count? Free spins are usually tied to one slot, and games can contribute differently to wagering.
- Which payment methods qualify? Some offers exclude certain methods, and credit cards cannot be used for gambling at all.
If an offer answers all five in a way that fits how you already play, it is a good offer for you. If it pushes you to deposit more, play faster, or play games you would not choose, walk past it.
What UK rules apply to welcome bonuses in 2026?
Three Gambling Commission rules shape every UK welcome offer. Wagering cannot exceed 10 times, an incentive cannot include more than one type of gambling product, and terms must be clear, transparent, fair and readily accessible. All three sit in Social Responsibility Code 5.1.1 of the licence conditions and apply from 19 January 2026.
| Rule | What the licence condition says | What it means when you compare offers |
|---|---|---|
| Wagering cap | Licensees must not apply wagering requirements over a maximum of 10 times. | Any UK offer showing 20x, 35x or 50x does not meet the rules in force now. |
| One product per incentive | An incentive must not include more than one type of product (betting, casino, bingo, lottery). | A casino welcome bonus should ask you to play casino games only. |
| Clear terms | Terms must be clear, transparent, fair and readily accessible to anyone offered the incentive. | You should be able to find the significant terms next to the offer before you sign up. |
| No speed rewards | Licensees must not increase the benefit if the qualifying spend is reached in a shorter time. | An offer should not pay more because you deposit or play faster. |
| Credit card ban | Gambling on credit cards banned since 14 April 2020. | You cannot claim any welcome bonus with a credit card. |
| Minimum age | You must be 18 or over to gamble online in Great Britain. | Casinos must verify your age before you gamble, bonus or not. |
The Commission’s own worked example shows why the cap matters. Under the old approach, a £10 bonus with a 50 times wagering requirement meant playing through £500 before winnings could be withdrawn. The Commission noted that some operators had applied up to 60 times. Under the cap, the same £10 bonus needs at most £100 of wagers.
For the full maths, read our guide to casino wagering requirements and the 10x cap.
Why did the Gambling Commission settle on a 10x cap?
The Commission consulted on two routes: ban wagering requirements outright, or cap them. For a cap it tested three levels, 1 time, 5 times and 10 times, and chose 10 times. The final wording in Social Responsibility Code 5.1.1 says licensees must not apply wagering requirements over a maximum of 10 times to incentives that make customers play through bonus funds.
The same code defines the term. A wagering requirement is where a customer is required to make wagers totalling a particular value for funds to become withdrawable. That matters when you read an offer: the cap limits the multiple, but it does not stop an operator applying that multiple to deposit plus bonus, as Grosvenor does, or turning spin winnings into bonus funds first, as 888casino does.
Which UKGC-licensed casinos can you compare?
Every casino in our table holds an active UK Gambling Commission remote casino licence that we checked on the public register, with the account number and date shown. Welcome offer terms appear only where we have read them on the casino’s own promotions page. On 29 September 2026 that covered Unibet, Grosvenor, 888casino, LeoVegas, PlayOJO and Sky Casino. The rest carry no offer figures.

Order: casinos whose welcome offer we have read on their own site come first; the rest follow. Offers and banking facts were read from each operator's UK site on the date shown. Licence numbers link to each operator's entry on the Gambling Commission public register.

Which welcome bonus terms have we verified?
We have verified six welcome offers, each read on the operator’s own promotions or offer page on 29 September 2026. They range from 50 wager-free spins for a £10 deposit (LeoVegas, PlayOJO) to a £40 bonus plus 100 spins for £20 (Grosvenor). The table sets out the significant terms side by side, as each operator states them.
| Casino | Offer | Qualifying deposit or stake | Wagering | Expiry | Other significant terms |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unibet | 300 free spins at £0.10 on Big Bass Splash | Deposit and stake £30 on slots | 10x on spin winnings | Claim within 7 days; spins expire in 48 hours | New GB customers, opt in, debit card or instant bank transfer only, max stake applies |
| Grosvenor Casinos | £40 bonus + 100 free spins on Big Bass Splash | £20 first deposit (not PayPal or Paysafe) | 10x deposit + bonus (£600 on £20 + £40) | Runs until further notice | Select the offer in the cashier before depositing; slots 100%, live casino 10%, jackpots 50%; max win applies |
| 888casino | 200 free spins (code HELLO200FS) or 100% bonus up to £100 | £20 (spins) or £10 (match) | 10x bonus | Spins valid 7 days; match wagered within 90 days; both end 31/12/2026 | One welcome offer per customer, £0.10 per spin, winnings capped at £100 |
| LeoVegas | 50 wager-free spins on Big Bass Splash | Deposit £10, then wager £10 once on eligible casino games | None on spin winnings | Deposit and wager within 7 days of registering; spins expire in 3 days | New customers, opt in, wagering contributions vary |
| PlayOJO | 50 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza | £10 first deposit | None | Not stated on the offer page | First deposit only, £0.10 per spin, no cap on winnings stated, not available in Northern Ireland |
| Sky Casino | 100 free spins | Deposit and stake £10 | Not stated in the offer text | Spins expire after 30 days | New customers, opt in, eligible games only (not named) |
Unibet is the offer we break down in most detail below. It gives new GB customers 300 free spins at £0.10 each on Big Bass Splash for depositing and staking £30 on slots, with 10x wagering, a 7 day claim window and spins that expire 48 hours after they are credited.
| Significant term | Unibet (checked 29 September 2026) |
|---|---|
| Offer | 300 free spins at £0.10 each on Big Bass Splash |
| Face value of the spins | £30 (300 x £0.10) |
| Qualifying action | Deposit and stake £30 on slots |
| Wagering | 10x |
| Claim window | Within 7 days |
| Spin expiry | 48 hours |
| Eligibility | New GB customers only, opt in required |
| Qualifying payments | Debit card or instant bank transfer only |
| Other terms | Game contributions vary, max stake applies |
| Licence | UKGC account 45322, Platinum Gaming Limited |
Two points are worth noticing. First, the qualifying step is to deposit and stake £30, so you play through your own £30 before the spins arrive. Second, the spins have a short life. If you will not be free to play within 48 hours of them landing, the offer is worth less to you.
Compare the Grosvenor line carefully. Its 10x applies to deposit plus bonus, so £20 + £40 means £600 of wagers, and a PayPal or Paysafe first deposit does not qualify. The two wager-free offers are smaller, but whatever the spins win is yours to withdraw, as LeoVegas and PlayOJO state it.
The other casinos in our table are bet365, Betway, Mr Vegas and William Hill Vegas. Each holds an active UKGC licence. bet365 and Betway showed no casino welcome offer on their sites on 29 September 2026. Mr Vegas and William Hill Vegas offers are not yet verified, and we will add figures only after reading each casino’s own terms page.
How much play does each verified welcome bonus really need?
Turn each offer into money in, face value out and wagering before you can withdraw. On the terms we read on 29 September 2026, the lightest offers were LeoVegas and PlayOJO: a £10 deposit for 50 spins at £0.10 with no wagering on winnings. The heaviest was Grosvenor, where 10x on deposit plus bonus means £600 of wagers on a £20 deposit.
| Casino | Your money in | Face value of the offer | Wagering before withdrawal | Time limit on the play |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unibet | £30 deposited and staked on slots | £30 (300 spins x £0.10) | 10x whatever the spins win | Spins expire 48 hours after credit |
| Grosvenor Casinos | £20 first deposit | £40 bonus + 100 spins | £600 (10x of £20 + £40) | Offer runs until further notice |
| 888casino, spins option | £20 deposit, then £20 staked on selected games | £20 (200 spins x £0.10) | Spin winnings, capped at £100, become bonus with 10x wagering: up to £1,000 | 7 days to use spins, then 7 days to wager |
| 888casino, match option | £10 to £100 deposit | 100% match up to £100 | 10x the bonus: £100 on a £10 bonus, £1,000 on £100 | Wager within 90 days |
| LeoVegas | £10 deposit, wagered once | £5 (50 spins x £0.10) | None on spin winnings | Spins expire after 3 days |
| PlayOJO | £10 first deposit | £5 (50 spins x £0.10) | None | Not stated on the offer page |
Sky Casino is left out of the maths because its offer text does not state a spin value or a wagering figure. We will not guess either.
Worked example: Grosvenor and game weighting
Grosvenor’s terms count slots at 100 percent, jackpot games at 50 percent and live casino at 10 percent. On slots, £600 of wagering means £600 of stakes. On jackpot games the same requirement takes £1,200 of stakes. On live casino it takes £6,000, because each £1 staked clears only 10p. The multiple stays 10x, but the games you choose decide how long it takes.
Worked example: 888casino match bonus
Deposit £50 and the 100% match adds a £50 bonus. At 10x, you need £500 of wagers on selected slots within 90 days. 888casino’s terms also say bonus funds are only used once your cash balance reaches £0, so you play through your own £50 first. Winnings from the offer are capped at £100.
Worked example: how many spins is £1,000 of wagering?
Stake size changes the number of spins, not the total. At £0.50 a spin, £1,000 of wagering takes 2,000 spins. At £2 a spin, the most an 18 to 24 year old can stake on an online slot, it takes 500. Bonus terms often set a lower maximum stake, so check that figure before you plan your session.
What types of welcome bonus will you see?
UK casino welcome offers come in a handful of shapes: free spins after a qualifying deposit or stake, a deposit match paid as bonus funds, a no deposit offer, a cashback style offer, and an offer with no wagering on winnings. Each works differently, so compare like with like rather than headline against headline.
Free spins after a qualifying stake
You deposit and play a set amount, then receive spins on a named slot at a fixed value per spin. Unibet, 888casino (spins option) and Sky Casino offers are this type. Check the spin value, the slot, the expiry and what wagering applies to any spin winnings.
Deposit match
The casino adds bonus funds as a percentage of your deposit, up to a limit. 888casino’s 100% up to £100 and Grosvenor’s £40 on a £20 deposit are examples. Your bonus balance is usually locked until you meet the wagering. With the 10x cap, a £20 bonus now needs no more than £200 of wagers, but game weighting can change how quickly you get there.
No deposit offer
You get a small amount of spins or bonus funds for registering, before you deposit. You still have to pass age and identity checks first. None of the six offers we verified on 29 September 2026 is a no deposit offer; all need a deposit. We cover these in our no deposit casino bonus guide.
No wagering offer
Winnings from the spins or bonus are paid as cash you can withdraw, with no play-through. The trade off is usually a smaller headline. LeoVegas (50 wager-free spins) and PlayOJO (50 spins, no wagering) were the two we verified on 29 September 2026. See our no wagering casinos guide for how to spot a genuine one.

How do you compare two welcome offers side by side?
Turn every offer into the same three numbers: what you must put in, how much you must wager before you can withdraw, and how long you have. Then check the game and payment restrictions. The offer that needs the least extra spending and the least extra play, in a time you can manage, is usually the better fit.
| Question | Where to find the answer | What a better answer looks like |
|---|---|---|
| How much must I deposit or stake? | Significant terms next to the offer | An amount you had already planned to spend |
| What is the wagering multiple? | Significant terms or full bonus terms | Lower than 10x, or none at all |
| What does the multiple apply to? | Full bonus terms | The bonus amount only, not deposit plus bonus |
| How long to claim and to use it? | Significant terms | Enough time to play at your normal pace |
| Which games count, and at what rate? | Game contribution table in the terms | The games you already play count in full |
| Is there a maximum stake with bonus funds? | Full bonus terms | A clear figure you can see before you play |
| Is there a cap on what you can withdraw? | Full bonus terms | No cap, or a clearly stated one |
| Which payment methods qualify? | Significant terms and cashier page | The method you already use |
A worked example helps. Say Offer A gives a £20 bonus with 10x wagering on the bonus, and Offer B gives a £20 bonus with 5x wagering. Offer A needs up to £200 of wagers; Offer B needs up to £100. If both count only some games in full, the real amount can be higher, which is why the game contribution table matters. These are illustrations, not offers from any casino.
How do you claim a casino welcome bonus step by step?
Register, pass the age and identity checks, opt in the way the offer says, make the qualifying deposit with an accepted payment method, then complete any qualifying stake before the deadline. Each verified offer adds its own twist, so read the terms for that one casino rather than assuming they all work alike.
1. Register and verify
Welcome offers are for new customers only, and the casino must confirm you are 18 or over before you gamble. Use your real details, because the same checks run again if you withdraw.
2. Opt in the right way
The opt-in step differs by casino. Unibet, LeoVegas and Sky Casino all say opt in. Grosvenor asks you to select the offer in the cashier before you deposit. 888casino’s spins offer needs the promo code HELLO200FS on your first deposit. Miss the step and the deposit usually will not qualify.
3. Deposit with a qualifying method
Unibet’s offer qualifies only with a debit card or instant bank transfer. Grosvenor’s is not available if your first deposit is by PayPal or Paysafe. No UK casino can take a credit card for gambling.
4. Meet the qualifying stake on time
Several offers need you to play before the reward lands. Unibet needs £30 staked on slots. 888casino needs £20 staked on selected games within 7 days of the deposit. LeoVegas needs your £10 wagered once on eligible casino games within 7 days of registering.
5. Use the reward before it expires
Expiry runs from 48 hours for Unibet spins to 30 days for Sky Casino spins. Note the deadline when the spins or bonus land, and only claim when you have time to use them.
What should you check in the terms before you opt in?
Read the significant terms next to the offer, then open the full bonus terms. Check the qualifying deposit and stake, the wagering multiple and what it applies to, the claim and use windows, eligible games and contribution rates, the maximum stake with bonus funds, any withdrawal cap and the qualifying payment methods. If any of these is missing or unclear, ask support before depositing.
The Commission’s rules require terms to be clear, transparent, fair and readily accessible. Licence Condition 7.1.1 also requires terms and practices to be fair, transparent and not misleading. In practice, that gives you a simple test: if you cannot work out what you need to do after reading the offer page, the offer has failed its first job.
Use this short checklist on each casino’s own promotions page:
- Does the offer page say who is eligible, such as new GB customers only?
- Do you need to opt in, and is there a code or a tick box?
- Is the wagering 10x or lower, and is it on the bonus only?
- Does the offer need casino play only, with no betting or bingo condition?
- Are the qualifying payment methods listed, and is yours one of them?
- Is there a maximum stake while bonus funds are active?
- Do the spins or bonus funds expire, and when?
Keep a screenshot of the terms on the day you claim. If there is a dispute later, a dated copy of what you were shown is useful evidence.
What mistakes cost people their welcome bonus?
Most lost bonuses come down to a missed step, not a hidden trick: the wrong payment method, no opt-in or code, a deadline that passed, the wrong game, or a stake above the bonus maximum. Each is avoidable if you read the significant terms once before depositing.
Depositing with an excluded method
If the terms name qualifying methods, a deposit by any other method may not trigger the offer. Grosvenor’s PayPal and Paysafe exclusion is a live example.
Skipping the opt-in or promo code
An offer that needs a code or a cashier selection is not applied after the event on most sites. Complete the step before the money goes in.
Playing games that count for little or nothing
A live casino session can look like progress while clearing only a tenth of its value against Grosvenor-style weighting. Check the contribution table first.
Staking above the maximum with bonus funds
Unibet’s terms say a max stake applies. Going over a bonus stake limit can put winnings at risk, so find the figure in the full terms before you play.
Letting the clock run out
Claim windows and use windows are separate. 888casino’s spins offer runs on three 7 day clocks: stake, use the spins, then wager the bonus.
Opening a second account
888casino allows one welcome offer per customer, and PlayOJO’s terms warn that irregular play may lead to removal of rewards. Duplicate accounts break these terms and can see the account closed.
How do game weighting and stake limits affect a welcome bonus?
Game weighting sets how much each game type counts toward wagering. If a game counts at 50 percent, a £1 stake only clears 50p of wagering. Separately, online slots are capped at £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 per spin for players aged 18 to 24. Bonus terms can set lower maximum stakes still.
The Commission looked at game weighting when it set the 10x cap. It decided not to change weighting rules for now, but said it expects terms to be clear and transparent and will keep the impact under review. It also said that if weighting is changed in a way that has a considerable impact on customers, it could act.
So a 10x offer can still require more play than it looks if the games you choose count at a low rate. Read the contribution table before you pick your games, not after.
The slot stake limits apply whether you are playing with your own money or bonus funds. Our slot stake limits guide covers how they work.

Why might a casino ask for ID before you can claim a bonus?
All online gambling businesses in Great Britain must check your age and identity before you gamble. The Gambling Commission says a customer cannot place a bet until they have been verified. That applies to welcome bonuses too, so expect to pass checks at sign up, often electronically, before any offer can be used.
The Commission says casinos can often match your details against databases such as credit reference agencies and the electoral roll. If that is not enough, you may be asked for documents such as a passport, driving licence or household bill.
The Commission also says a gambling business should not ask for information as a condition of withdrawal if it could have asked earlier, unless a legal obligation means it can only ask at that point. If a withdrawal is delayed for ID the casino could have requested sooner, that may breach Licence Condition 17.
Casinos also use checks to stop people claiming the same offer many times. The Commission said it expects licensees to have robust registration and Know Your Customer checks in place, which is one reason welcome offers are limited to one per person, household or payment method.
What if a casino will not honour its welcome bonus?
Complain to the casino first and follow its complaints process. The Gambling Commission lists bonus offers and terms and conditions among common complaint types. The business has 8 weeks to resolve your complaint. If you are still unhappy after that, you can take it to a free, independent Alternative Dispute Resolution provider.
- Collect evidence: the offer page, the terms, dates, times and amounts.
- Raise a complaint through the casino’s own complaints procedure and keep copies of everything.
- Wait for the final response. The business has 8 weeks from when it receives the complaint.
- If you are not satisfied, ask for the details of the casino’s ADR provider. The casino may issue a deadlock letter.
- Send your complaint and the casino’s response to the ADR provider.
The Commission notes that ADR providers will not accept complaints about customer service issues or a casino’s refusal to accept your custom. A dispute about whether bonus terms were applied fairly is the kind of complaint that fits.
Are welcome bonus winnings taxed in the UK?
For players, no Capital Gains Tax is due on betting, lottery or pools winnings, according to GOV.UK. That covers winnings you withdraw after meeting a bonus’s terms. The tax side is not a reason to claim an offer; the terms and your budget are what matter. If your circumstances are unusual, check with HMRC or a tax adviser.
Which welcome bonus suits which kind of player?
Match the offer to how you already play. A small, wager-free spins offer suits someone who plays short slot sessions. A deposit match suits someone who was going to deposit more anyway and has time for the play-through. If neither fits, skipping the offer is a sound choice.
| If you usually… | Offer type that fits | Verified example (29 September 2026) | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deposit £10 and play a few slot spins | No wagering spins | LeoVegas or PlayOJO, 50 spins for £10 | Short expiry (3 days at LeoVegas) |
| Deposit £20 to £30 on slots | Free spins after a qualifying stake | Unibet 300 spins for £30 staked; 888casino 200 spins for £20 | 10x wagering on spin winnings, tight spin expiry |
| Deposit more and play over weeks | Deposit match | 888casino 100% up to £100, 90 days to wager | Bonus used only after your cash balance hits £0 |
| Play mostly live casino | Often none | Grosvenor counts live casino at 10% | Wagering takes ten times the stakes |
| Have a set monthly budget already spent | No offer | Not applicable | Any offer that needs more money than you planned |
Is a bigger welcome bonus ever worth chasing?
Rarely. A bigger bonus usually needs a bigger qualifying deposit, and wagering is a multiple of the bonus, so more bonus means more play before you can withdraw. The casino keeps its edge on every spin. Treat any welcome bonus as extra play time on money you had already set aside, never as a way to win back losses.
Before you claim anything, set a deposit limit in your account. Decide the most you are willing to lose this month and stop there. If you find yourself signing up for offers to fund more play, that is a sign to take a break.

Your questions, answered
What is the best casino welcome bonus in the UK?
The best welcome bonus is the one whose qualifying deposit, wagering, expiry and eligible games fit how you already play. Headline size matters less than terms. We verified six offers on the operators' own pages on 29 September 2026: Unibet, Grosvenor, 888casino, LeoVegas, PlayOJO and Sky Casino. LeoVegas and PlayOJO carry no wagering on spin winnings.
What is the maximum wagering on a UK welcome bonus?
Since 19 January 2026, the Gambling Commission caps wagering on any bonus at 10 times. A wagering requirement is where you must make wagers totalling a set value before funds become withdrawable. A £10 bonus now needs at most £100 of wagers, compared with £500 at 50x under the old approach.
Can a casino welcome bonus require a sports bet?
No. Since 19 January 2026, UK licensees must not include more than one type of gambling product, such as betting, casino, bingo or lottery, within an incentive. A casino welcome offer that needs a sports bet to unlock spins does not meet the current Gambling Commission rules.
Can I claim a welcome bonus with a credit card?
No. Gambling businesses in Great Britain have been banned from accepting credit cards for gambling since 14 April 2020. Check the offer's qualifying payment methods too: Unibet's offer qualifies only with a debit card or instant bank transfer, and Grosvenor's excludes PayPal and Paysafe first deposits (both checked 29 September 2026).
Why does a casino need my ID before I claim a bonus?
The Gambling Commission says all online gambling businesses must verify your age and identity before you gamble, and you cannot bet until verified. Checks confirm you are 18 or over, have not self-excluded, and are who you say you are. Many are electronic; some need documents.
What can I do if a casino will not honour its bonus?
Complain to the casino first through its complaints process, with dates, amounts and screenshots of the terms. The business has 8 weeks to resolve it. If you are still unhappy, you can take the complaint to a free, independent Alternative Dispute Resolution provider named by the casino.
How do I claim a casino welcome bonus?
Register as a new customer, pass age and ID checks, then opt in the way the offer says: a tick box, a cashier selection (Grosvenor) or a promo code (888casino's HELLO200FS). Deposit with a qualifying payment method and complete any qualifying stake before the deadline. Credit cards cannot be used for gambling in Great Britain.
Which UK welcome bonus has the lowest wagering?
Of the six offers we read on 29 September 2026, LeoVegas and PlayOJO had no wagering on spin winnings. Each gives 50 spins at £0.10 for a £10 deposit. The others use 10x, the maximum the Gambling Commission allows since 19 January 2026.
Are casino welcome bonus winnings taxed in the UK?
GOV.UK lists betting, lottery or pools winnings among the things you do not pay Capital Gains Tax on. Winnings you withdraw after meeting a bonus's terms fall under that. Check with HMRC or an adviser if your situation is unusual.
