UK Online Casino Guides: Rules, Terms and Safety
How we earn: some casino links on this page may pay us a commission if you sign up. It costs you nothing and never moves a casino up our list. We list only UK Gambling Commission licensed casinos. 18+. Full disclosure.
Quick answer Our guides explain how UK online casinos work and the rules that protect you. They cover licences, bonus rules, payment rules, slot stake limits, tax on winnings and self-exclusion. Every rule we state comes from the Gambling Commission, gov.uk or the named support service, with the source listed.

What are the key rules for UK online casinos?
Five rules shape every UK casino. You must be 18 or over. Credit cards are banned for gambling since 14 April 2020. Online slots are capped at £5 per spin for adults 25 and over, and £2 for 18 to 24 year olds. Bonus wagering is capped at 10x, and mixed-product offers are banned, since 19 January 2026.

| Slot stake limit, 18 to 24 | £2 per spin | 21 May 2025 |

How do you know a UK casino is licensed?
Look for the operator's name in the casino's footer or terms, then search for it on the Gambling Commission public register. The business record shows each licence and its status. For an online casino you want an active casino remote licence. If you cannot find the operator, do not deposit.
We do this check for every casino in our table and record the account number, the licence number and the date. That check is why some well-known brands are not listed. Casumo's casino remote licence shows as surrendered on the register (account 39265), for example. Our rating method explains the full process.

What will the guides section cover?
This section will hold our explainers on UK gambling rules and on how to use online casinos safely. Each guide answers one question, states only verified facts, and lists its sources. Guides do not rank or recommend casinos; that is the job of our reviews and comparison table.

What changed for casino bonuses in 2026?
Two Gambling Commission rules came into force on 19 January 2026. Bonus wagering is capped at 10 times, so you cannot be asked to play a bonus through more than ten times. And operators can no longer offer bonuses that require you to play different products, such as betting and slots, to unlock them.
These rules make offers simpler to compare. They do not change the basic maths: the casino keeps an edge on every game, and a bonus is still a reason to play more. Our casino bonuses hub shows the six offers we verified on 29 September 2026 (Unibet, Grosvenor, 888casino, LeoVegas, PlayOJO and Sky Casino) and explains how we check the rest.
What should you look for in a casino's terms?
Look for the operator name and licence details, the rules on bonuses, the withdrawal process, and how to complain. The terms should also name the casino's alternative dispute resolution provider. If the terms are hard to find or unclear on these points, that tells you something about the casino.
- Who operates the site and where it is licensed.
- The significant terms of any offer, shown near the offer itself.
- Withdrawal processing times, limits and verification requirements.
- The complaints process and the named dispute resolution service.
Are gambling winnings taxed in the UK?
Gambling winnings are generally not taxed for UK players. Gov.uk lists betting, lottery or pools winnings among the things you do not pay Capital Gains Tax on. This is not tax advice. If your circumstances are unusual, for example if gambling is part of a business, check with HMRC or a qualified adviser.
How does self-exclusion work in the UK?
You can self-exclude in two ways. With a single casino, you use the self-exclusion option in your account settings. Across all GB-licensed online gambling sites and apps at once, you can register with GAMSTOP, which is free. Once you are excluded, licensed operators should block your access.
GAMSTOP offers more than one exclusion period. Check the current options on gamstop.co.uk when you register. Self-exclusion works best alongside other steps, such as blocking gambling transactions with your bank and installing gambling blocking software on your devices.
Why do we only use verified sources?
Gambling rules change, and outdated advice can cost you money. Every rule in our guides links to the Gambling Commission, gov.uk or the support service that published it, and each source carries the date we checked it. If we cannot verify something, we leave it out rather than guess.
Casino facts follow the same rule. Licence numbers come from the UKGC register. Offer terms come from each casino's own promotions page. Where we have not checked yet, we say so.
How do the UK casino rules fit together?
The rules fall into three groups. Who can play: you must be 18 or over. How you pay: credit cards are banned. How you play: slot stakes are capped, bonus wagering is capped at 10x and mixed-product offers are banned. Together they limit borrowing, stakes and the pull of offers.

Each rule applies to every casino licensed in Great Britain, whatever the brand. That is why the licence check comes first in every guide. A casino outside the GB licensing system does not have to follow any of them, which is one reason we list only casinos with an active UKGC licence.
What does the credit card ban mean for you?
You cannot use a credit card to gamble at any GB-licensed casino. The Gambling Commission banned gambling businesses from accepting credit cards from 14 April 2020. In practice, that means paying with a debit card or another method that draws on your own money. A casino that accepts a credit card is a warning sign.
The ban exists because gambling on borrowed money can cause serious harm. If you are looking for ways to fund gambling with credit, stop and talk to the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133. It is free and open 24/7. Our payment methods hub explains the other ways to pay.
What is a mixed-product promotion?
A mixed-product promotion is an offer that makes you play more than one type of gambling to unlock it. An example would be placing a sports bet to receive casino free spins. Since 19 January 2026, GB-licensed operators cannot offer these. Separate sportsbook and casino offers can still exist, but one cannot depend on the other.
If you see an offer that links a bet on sport to casino play, check its date and the operator's licence. It may be an old page, or it may not come from a GB-licensed site. Either way, it is not an offer a GB-licensed operator can make today.
Why are there two slot stake limits?
The Gambling Commission set a lower limit for younger adults. Players aged 25 and over can stake up to £5 per spin on online slots from 9 April 2025. Players aged 18 to 24 can stake up to £2 per spin from 21 May 2025. The casino applies the right limit based on your verified age.
The limits apply to online slots only. Live tables and other games set their own stake ranges. Our slots hub explains the limits in more detail, alongside RTP and volatility.
What should you do before joining any UK casino?
Check the licence, read the offer terms, check the payment and withdrawal rules, and set your limits before your first deposit. These four steps take a few minutes and cover the checks that matter most. If any step turns up something unclear, choose a different casino rather than hoping it works out.
| Step | What to do | Where to do it |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Licence | Confirm an active casino remote licence for the operator | Gambling Commission public register |
| 2. Offer terms | Check wagering (10x at most), expiry, eligible games and qualifying payment methods | The casino's promotions page |
| 3. Payments | Check which methods work for deposits and for withdrawals | The casino's cashier or payments page |
| 4. Limits | Set a deposit limit and turn on reality checks | Your account settings, before your first deposit |
| 5. Support | Note where to get help if gambling stops being fun | Our safer gambling page, GamCare and BeGambleAware |
Our casino reviews follow the same order, and our comparison table shows the licence facts for every casino we list.
How do you complain about a UK casino?
Complain to the casino first, using the complaints process in its terms. Keep a record of dates, amounts and messages. If the casino does not resolve it, its terms should name an alternative dispute resolution provider you can take the complaint to. The provider is independent of the casino and should be free to use.
Before you complain, gather the facts: your account details, the transaction or bet in question, the exact term you think was applied wrongly, and copies of any chat or email. A clear, dated record makes it far easier for the casino or the dispute provider to look into what happened.
- Use the casino's own complaints route first and note the date you raised it.
- Quote the exact term or rule you are relying on.
- Keep screenshots of the offer, the terms and your account history.
- If the casino cannot resolve it, contact the dispute resolution provider named in its terms.
What guides will explain new casinos and apps?
Two planned guides cover new casino sites and casino apps. Both will apply the same checks as our reviews: an active UKGC licence first, then the terms, payments and safer gambling tools. Neither will list a casino we have not checked on the register, however new or popular it is.
How do we choose which guides to write?
We write a guide when a common question about UK casinos has a clear, verifiable answer from an official source. Each guide targets one question, cites the Gambling Commission, gov.uk or the named support service, and dates every check. If we cannot verify the answer, we do not publish the guide until we can.
Where can you get help with gambling?
If gambling is causing you problems, free help is available. The National Gambling Helpline, run by GamCare, is on 0808 8020 133 and is open 24/7. BeGambleAware offers free advice and tools. GAMSTOP lets you block yourself from GB-licensed gambling sites and apps for free.
You must be 18 or over to gamble online in Great Britain. Our safer gambling page brings every tool and service together in one place.

The minimum legal age for online gambling in Great Britain is 18. Licensed casinos must verify your age before letting you gamble, and some rules, such as the £2 slot stake limit, apply specifically to players aged 18 to 24.
What changed for UK casino bonuses in 2026?
From 19 January 2026, bonus wagering is capped at 10 times, and operators can no longer offer bonuses that require you to play different products, such as betting and slots, to unlock them. Both rules come from the Gambling Commission.

How do I self-exclude from all UK gambling sites?
Register with GAMSTOP, a free service that blocks your access to accounts on GB-licensed gambling websites and apps. You choose an exclusion period from the options on gamstop.co.uk. You can also self-exclude with individual casinos in your account settings.
Where do your rules come from?
Every rule we state comes from the Gambling Commission, gov.uk or the support service that published it, and each source is listed with the date we checked it. If we cannot verify something, we leave it out.
What should I check before joining a UK casino?
Confirm the operator holds an active casino remote licence on the Gambling Commission register, read the offer's significant terms, check which payment methods work for deposits and withdrawals, and set a deposit limit before your first deposit. If anything is unclear, choose a different casino.
